Depicting Joan Miró inspired Dream Art

The art will be from all students and all grades K-8. I have been mounting it onto black poster boards that can be taped into the windows. Each poster board is 22" x 28" and holds three to five artworks. There will be approximately 36 poster boards, nine per window, positioned horizontally. This project was designed to explore the Surrealistic nature of our dreams. The skill level varies for each piece; this was the first art project for this year. Depending upon their grade level, students had a choice of using crayons, watercolor, and/or oil pastel (for its blending qualities). They were asked to try to capture a dream that they remembered, possibly because it had meaning or was impactful to them.

Joan Miró was a Spanish artist whose artwork was considered to be part of the movements of Fauvism, Cubism, and Surrealism. These artworks also have Fauvist (“of a wild beast”) qualities in their non-naturalistic use of color and their Expressionist qualities. The artworks are an attempt to capture a glimpse of the subconscious capacity of our minds by depicting our dreams as we perceive them if captured in a single artwork. Each piece is unique, completely determined by the student.
