Olivia Powell

Immersive, performative, and imaginative writing from a circus of stories

Olivia Powell is a writer, artist and director who wonders what else stories can be and do. Embracing a poetic sensibility, she experiments across narrative forms and creates works that are often described as “the bedtime stories that we forgot to tell.” Olivia has a background in film and theatre from Dartmouth College and an MA in digital storytelling from the Royal College of Art in London. Her passion lies in exploring story development processes that are experimental, instinctual, performative and imaginative.

In 2020, Olivia was shortlisted for the international Lumen Prize in Art and Technology for a short film, M.A.R.Y., co-devised with GPT-2. In 2021, her VR writing project, With words that don’t exist, was featured at the VoxLab theatre residency at Dartmouth College as well as in the e-literature publication, the digital review. Upcoming publications include her epic poetry piece “Blue Walls, Gray Cellar, Blueberries” in the independent arts publication, My Daughter Terra
